DAYLIGHT SAVINGS TIME EXTENDED IN
2007

by Charlie Barry, Technology Manager
In the United States, from 1987 to 2006, daylight saving time (DST)
has been observed the first Sunday in April through the last Sunday
in October. In 2006, DST ran from April 2 and ended on October 29.
However in August 2005, President Bush signed into law the Energy
Policy Act, which extends DST by four weeks, starting in 2007 from
the second Sunday in March to the first Sunday in November. In 2007,
DST will start March 11 and end on November 4.
You may be asking yourself, “What does this mean to me?” Most
computer operating systems adjust for daylight saving time
automatically. If the computer operating system fails to make the
transition correctly, times stored in the database of your Ortivus
application could be an hour off. But don’t worry - Microsoft is
working to make a patch available for Windows XP and Windows Server
2003 before March 2007 to resolve this issue; however for pre-XP
Windows Operating system you’ll need to manually change the clocks
on your desktop and servers. As for the upcoming Windows Vista
operating system, Microsoft has stated that these changes will be
incorporated in the release-to-market version; therefore a patch
will not be needed.
Ortivus applications contain no internal clock; the applications get
their dates and times from the operating system, therefore once the
clock is set in the operating system, your Ortivus applications will
function properly.
