Ortivus Records
Management System Preview
by Alexandre Sagala, Product Manager
Ortivus North America (NA) is
excited to launch a new addition to its product line. The Ortivus Records
Management System (RMS), customized for the Law Enforcement Industry, will
complement Ortivus NA’s existing line of Public Safety software products
nicely, as it provides an invaluable means of digitally managing
information: files, data, paperwork, etc.
The new Ortivus RMS is designed to simplify and optimize the intricate task
of information management. It eliminates the stacks of paper and enables
easy information retrieval. Ortivus RMS provides easy data capture and
reporting functionalities, allowing law enforcement personnel to quickly
enter and retrieve data. Information is funneled to the appropriate
personnel as this system incorporates flexible collaboration management
tools and processes to ensure optimal information flow throughout the
organization. This state-of-the-art system describes approval chains and
manages case workflow, ensuring that agency information goes through the
proper people, approvals and steps to minimize case-buildup errors.
Decisions can be made with full confidence that all information has been
reviewed and authenticated. Ortivus RMS utilizes a simple, graphic-based
dashboard that makes it easy for anyone to use. And the time saved in the
paper shuffle and approval process will encourage everyone to want to use
it. Ask your Ortivus NA Sales Rep for a demo…it’s a system you need to see
to fully understand how valuable it can be to your agency.
The new Ortivus RMS is currently in beta testing and an announcement of
general availability is expected at the end of the first quarter in 2006.

Microsoft SQL
Server 2005 and Your Sweet Products
by Charlie Barry, Director of Technology
By the time this article is
published, Microsoft will have already released a new version of its
Relational Database Management System (RDBMS),
SQL Server 2005. As many of
you may be aware, Microsoft SQL Server is an integral part of your Sweet-Billing,
Sweet-Field Data, and Sweet-CAD systems. SQL Server is the
RDBMS that manages the data you enter into these applications.
The release of SQL Server 2005 brings many new and exciting changes; some of
these changes are not fully supported in the 5.1.1 version of Sweet-Billing
and Sweet-Field Data and version 5.0.4 of Sweet-CAD. At this
time Ortivus North America (NA) is requiring customers to remain on SQL
Server 2000 and NOT deploy SQL Server 2005. Deployment of SQL Server 2005
with version 5.1.1 of Sweet-Billing and Sweet-Field Data or
version 5.0.4 of Sweet-CAD will result in failure of your Sweet
program to operate properly. Ortivus NA is actively pursuing adding support
for SQL Server 2005 into its products and anticipate a compatible release in
2006.
Current Microsoft Desktop Engine customers who would like to upgrade to
another edition of SQL Server can do so; however, it must be an edition of
SQL Server 2000. Through the Microsoft Open License program, Microsoft
offers downgrade rights. Downgrade rights allow for the purchase of the SQL
Server 2005 while legally allowing for the deployment of SQL Server 2000.
SQL Server 2005 can then be deployed at a later date with no additional
cost.

2005 Atlanta User
Group
by Kathy Ransom, User Group Coordinator, Support Services
We have just completed our final
2005 National Hands-on User Group in Atlanta, Georgia.
We had a terrific training session! There were 42 attendees from all over
the country. This location was a new one for us and took place in the
perimeter area of Atlanta. We were able to use the Knowledge Development
Center, Lakeside, as our teaching venue, complete with computer labs for
each of the sessions. Participants could choose between two training
agendas, beginner and advanced tracks, as well as a complete day of
education provided by J.R. Henry, from J.R. Henry Consulting, Inc., a
recognized expert on the “nuts and bolts” of EMS billing. J.R.’s topics
included Lawsuits and Documentation, The new Medicare Appeals Process and a
review of the upcoming changes for Method 4 Billing to Method 2 Billing as
well as a question and answer session regarding Proper Claim Coding.
We are currently in the planning stage for 2006 User Groups. For further
details, contact Kathy Ransom at 563-387-3191 ext. 238 or visit the
User Group page
on the Ortivus NA website.
