Preparing for Windows Vista
by Charlie Barry, Product Manager

Ortivus, for many reasons, is excited for the upcoming v5.3.1 release of the Sweet product line (Sweet-Billing, Sweet-Field Data and Sweet-CAD). One particular aspect of the v5.3.1 release will be the compatibility with Microsoft Windows Vista. Version 5.3.1 will be the first General Availability release of the Sweet product line that in its entirety has been tested and verified for Windows Vista. With this soon-to-be released Sweet product line v5.3.1, it is important to understand a few key points when planning to migrate your Sweet applications to Windows Vista.
  • Windows Vista can be purchased in any of six different editions depending on your needs. Ortivus recommends the use of Windows Vista Business edition; the Sweet product line will support the following editions:

    • Windows Vista Business
    • Windows Vista Ultimate
    • Windows Vista Enterprise

  • When upgrading an existing Windows XP computer, Ortivus is requiring that a clean install be done and not an ‘in-place’ upgrade. Ortivus, like much of the business world, has held the position when upgrading a computer from one operating system to another - it’s best to not clutter or compound any potential issues with the new operating system with remnants from the previous operating system.

Support for SQL Server 7.0 and MSDE 1.0 Ending Soon
by Charlie Barry, Product Manager

For Ortivus customers who continue to utilize SQL Server 7.0 or MSDE 1.0, please note that effective December 31, 2007 Ortivus will be discontinuing support for this relational database engine.

In the article “Sweet Product Line Compatibility with SQL Server 2005” (2nd Quarter 2006 Edition) of OrtivusTALK, we discussed Sweet product support for SQL Server 7.0 and MSDE 1.0 was to expire December 31, 2007.

The Ortivus recommendation to users of SQL Server 7.0 or MSDE 1.0 is to build a migration plan to move away from these database management systems to newer Microsoft relational database management system such as SQL Server 2005.
