Sweet-CAD Posts An Amazing Seven Months
Dan Voss, Systems Analyst

It may have seemed like an impossible task when first issued, but through all-out, nothing-less-than astounding effort by the Decorah and Montreal Ortivus North America Sweet-CAD implementation teams, the computer-aided dispatch program was developed and deployed at 20 sites during 2004. A number of additional installations are already scheduled for 2005.

Dan Voss, Sweet-CAD Systems Analyst and implementation coordinator, found himself out of the office more in 2004 than in the office. Konrad Kroszner, another member of the team that also played a crucial role in the implementation, also spent many nights 'on the road' as he traveled in one direction, while Dan went the other. Traveling from state to state and service to service, Dan and Konrad often found themselves putting in long shifts to ensure that the system ran smoothly. While the effort required to accomplish all of the installations in 2004 was huge, the reward comes in hearing customer's comments like Danny Wildman of LifeCare Medical Transport out of Fredericksburg, VA: "In 2004, we converted our dispatch program to Sweet-CAD and have integrated it with our billing program, saving many hours each week tracking and entering calls into the billing system."

Sweet-CAD is a map centric computer-aided dispatch system designed to optimize operations efficiency. Based on the robust public-safety CAD known as AVeL-CAD, Sweet-CAD offers E-911 interface, call taking, interactive mapping, Geobase, as well as EMS specific functions. Sweet-CAD differs from its ‘sister program’, AVeL-CAD, in that it contains a tight integration with Sweet-Billing to accelerate the call-taking process and provide increased accuracy in data entry. The ‘Sweet’ CAD version also efficiently handles recurring reservations for regular transports, such as wheelchair  and/or dialysis pick-ups. Like AVeL-CAD, Sweet-CAD has the ability to display more than one incident at a time, and contains many command-and-control features, such as AVL decision analysis/recommendation, asset tracking and (if available) location specific text and graphical information (i.e. floor plans, the presence of hazardous materials, evacuation plans, premises history, etc.).
