5% Fee Schedule Inflaton Factor Announced for 2009
The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Service (CMS) has published the annual inflation factor for 2009. The announced inflation factor, published in Transmittal R1607CP on Friday, October 3rd, is 5.0% which will be in effect for dates of service beginning January 1, 2009.
While the fee schedule will be increasing in general, the temporary provision which has been providing increased payment rates for trip mileage above 50 miles, will expire on December 31, 2008. Effective for dates of service January 1, 2009 and thereafter, the temporary 25% bonus payment for loaded ground mileage above 50 miles will not apply.
CMS will make the 2009 ambulance fee schedule file available on November 6. Upon release of this file, Ortivus will be incorporating the 2009 changes into the Industry Service Pack. The new rates will automatically be configured in Sweet-Billing by installing the Industry Service Pack. Watch for future updates.
