Medicare Claim Denials Due to Mismatched Information
Many Medicare Carriers have started rejecting claims due to mismatched information relating to the NPI number and information from the National Plan and Provider Enumeration System (NPPES) and the Medicare legacy number and information in the current Medicare provider enrollment files.
One Medicare Carrier has stated based on months of monitoring, they have found that a large number of claims have mismatching NPI/PIN combinations or are submitted incorrectly. Ortivus strongly recommends EMS providers log into the NPPES database at https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/NPPES/LoginPage.do?userType=PROVIDER to verify the information NPPES has on file matches that which your Medicare Carrier has on file.
If you have any questions, Ortivus recommends contacting your Medicare Provider immediately to reduce the impact on your cash flow.
