Review of 2005: Ortivus Preparing for Big Things Ahead in 2006

As we reflect on this past year of 2005, as well as the previous year (2004) of ‘growth and change’, the fitting theme for the year ahead seems to be one that is filled with anticipation and expectation of some exciting events ahead – thus, “Preparing For Big Things Ahead.”

First and foremost, as most software companies would tell you, the value of our ‘product’ is in our ‘people’. It is the Ortivus team that makes our software product and services what they are today ~ and will be in the future. Ortivus North America (NA) develops and services some of the best software on the market for the Public Safety and EMS industries - not because we have discovered the magical widget and own the patent on it - but rather, because we have the best group of people developing, servicing, marketing, selling and administering the product. Ortivus NA is very proud of this exceptional group of people who blend their talents, knowledge and skills to deliver the best combination of Public Safety/EMS software and service in the industry. The Ortivus NA employees, while working from two separate offices located in two countries (Montreal, Canada and Iowa, USA) have blended their unique characteristics and personalities, formed from different backgrounds and cultures, into one unified and proficient team.

Secondly, another major milestone of the 2005 year that broadened the Ortivus product offerings was the Medos AG acquisition. As a key component in the Ortivus growth strategy, the acquisition of Medos AG not only gave the company a presence within the German market, but also expanded the product and service offerings in the health industry. The Medos' product line and services within clinical, departmental, processing and archiving systems, complement and broaden the Ortivus Group's offerings.

A solid foundation is critical to success. To ensure that Ortivus software incorporates the highest-quality code along with faster software development, the decision was made in early 2003 to utilize Microsoft’s .NET platform. This proven technology serves as the core software system upon which software depends and the framework from which all new – as well as past – Ortivus NA software will be developed or transferred. In early 2006, one of the first products developed completely using the .NET platform - the new Ortivus RMS (Records Management System), will be introduced.

This premier RMS, customized for the Law Enforcement Industry, will complement the Ortivus NA’s existing line of Public Safety software products, as it provides an invaluable means of digitally managing information: files, data, paperwork, etc. The new Ortivus RMS is designed to simplify and optimize the intricate task of information management - eliminating stacks of paper and enabling easy information retrieval. Look for more information about this upcoming and exciting new product on the Ortivus NA Web Site and in news releases and webinars in the first quarter of 2006.

GoTrack is another new software offering that Ortivus NA released onto the market in 2005. GoTrack is a Java-based program that can be loaded onto select java and GPS-enabled cellular phones which offers an excellent low-cost substitute to conventional fleet management solutions. The cost of incorporating GoTrack averages around seventy percent less than other standard AVL systems. This new vehicle-tracking program complements the current Ortivus NA product line quite well, as it integrates the GPS status into the CAD system and allows the dispatcher to have real-time knowledge of its fleet for better decision making and faster response times. More information is available on our website.

Commitment to industry knowledge – commitment to superior customer service – and commitment to the latest advancements in technology are all foundational components of the Ortivus NA vision. In addition to development of the best software in the Public Safety and EMS industries, Ortivus NA continually searches for ways of improving the ‘customer experience.’ Two examples implemented in 2005 include the first Public Safety track incorporated into the Chicago User Group, as well as educational webinars.

During the Chicago User Group in June, a brand new Public Safety track was offered. A complete day of content customized for Ortivus NA public safety users was offered in addition to one day of overlapping content for both Public Safety and EMS customers. This format provided a great networking opportunity for professionals within the three primary industries (fire, police and ambulance), as well as allowed for an entertaining program presented by Steve Berry, monthly humor columnist and cartoon illustrator for three JEMS’ publications.

The other new customer service initiative implemented in 2005 was the Ortivus NA Web-based delivery of information to deliver quality content in the EMS and Public Safety industries. Webinars – or Web-based seminars/presentations – allow people the opportunity to learn from the convenience of their own office or home. With shrinking budgets, rising costs of travel, and the ever increasing busy-ness in schedules, people are looking for better options for gaining information. Webinars offer a forum that eliminates travel costs and consumes only a fraction of the time that an event at a physical location does. This format, therefore, is becoming quite a popular method of sharing information, to which Ortivus NA has taken a lead and will continue to pursue.

Ortivus NA is anticipating an exciting year ahead. New product launches, continued growth through hiring and acquisitions, and continual customer service improvements are some of the major venues on the horizon for 2006. We welcome your companionship as we travel this exciting road ahead and prepare for the next ‘big thing’.
